Hey!
I’m Leigh, a fellow parent walking the SEND path. I’m neurodivergent myself, and I have three amazing, spicy children (all with EHCPs), so I understand how overwhelming, confusing, and isolating this education journey can feel!
I’m based in East Sussex, working with families UK-wide. I’m happily married to my best friend, mum to six spiders (yes, really!), and I find joy in true crime documentaries, advocating for children’s educational rights, stargazing, and anything from LUSH that smells like a hug in a bath bomb.
In 2021 it became clear that one of my children needed an independent specialist school, I could not afford a lawyer, and honestly, I thought we were doomed. All the advocates I found wanted to take over everything. The emails, the communication, the entire case! It terrified me. I didn’t want to hand it all over? I needed to see it all. I just needed someone to break it down and hold my hand!
When my child was struggling with EBSA (emotionally based school avoidance), I had to quit work, and it felt like an absolute nightmare. I spent countless late nights reading case law, pouring over guidance, and trying to make sense of the system. I overindulged in Ben & Jerry’s and barely slept.
I chose to take control. I completed IPSEAs advanced Law courses up to Level 3, so I could understand the system and fight for my children by myself. In the end, we won the school placement, and my child is thriving there.
SEND Compass was born from that experience, I want to offer that support to others, the kind I desperately needed at the time. I will guide you through each step, make the complex feel manageable, explain things in plain English, and empower you to advocate fearlessly for your child’s future.
Over the past 3 years, I’ve volunteered my time to support many families through some of the most challenging parts of the SEND process. If you’re curious what other parents have said, scroll down to the bottom for some lovely testimonials.
Whether you are applying for an EHCP, reviewing a draft, needing help writing documents, preparing for a tribunal, needing to vent, or just figuring out where to begin, I’m here to help. Even if we don’t make contact, please know that you are not alone, and this moment will pass. Look after yourself in any way you can.
Sending Love,
Leigh xx
